Creating the Core Shapes

Core is a much coarser fibre that felts together quickly. Romney is used exclusively in all of these Feltorials. It is a great colour, holds well and accepts top coat easily.

Separate the core wool into one third and two thirds ratios, just eyeball it. Hold it with some distance from the break and pull. This stage does not have to be neat (picture 1).

Roll up the head piece as firmly as possible using the foam pad to help grip it tightly. Turn the ends in while rolling, one end more than the other so the result is a triangular shape (picture 4).

Using the size 36 needle, tack this shape together, it does not need a lot of stabbing at this stage, just to hold it in place.

Roll up the remaining core wool for the body using the same technique as the head, however aim for an egg shape this time. Again this does not need to be felted tightly, just held together.
